The Finnish - Mongolian Society was founded in 1970. The purpose of the Society is to offer a forum for Finnish-Mongolian interaction as well as to spread information about Mongolia in Finland. Within this framework the Society offers its members a wide range of activities.

Cultural activities

The Society arranges regular lectures on various topics related to Mongolia. Artists from Mongolia, especially in the field of traditional music, have also been invited to perform in Finland. Several exhibitions have been held in Finland of both traditional and contemporary arts.

Humanitarian aid

The prevalent economic situation in Mongolia is difficult owing to the transition from a state economy to a market economy. For this reason the Society has lately been involved in various humanitarian aid projects. These include collecting clothes and sending money for Mongolian children. A concert has also been arranged in Helsinki, the proceedings of which was sent to support the street children in Ulaanbaatar.

Information and publishing

The Society publishes a members’ circular 2 - 4 times a year. It contains information about events arranged by the Society and news concerning Mongolia. The Society has printed postcards and other material depicting life in Mongolia. An informative slide show on Mongolia, its nature and people has also been produced by the Society. This package can be borrowed from the Society.

Language courses

The Society arranges courses in the Mongolian language with native Mongolian teachers. The courses also cover everyday life in Mongolia.

Other activities

The Society arranges regular programme evenings. Old and new Mongolian films, both drama and documentaries, are frequently shown.
